Alice in Cookieland

In celebration of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, which is out today, Bakelab has created an adorable box of treats for your next Mad Tea Party!
Click here for the full scoop on what's included. If you ask me, those Cheshire Cat Macarons look positively delish! It just goes to show you, this isn't going to be a movie. It's going to be a phenomenon!

Oink

I came upon this the other day and it made me laugh so hard I had to share it.

Is the packaging meant to deter me? Or should I laugh at the message as I devour every morsel of chocolately goodness? You decide...

Via The Coolist.

P.S. Play the Falling Piggies Game on their website. It's hilarious.

Don We Now Our Gay Apparel!

If I had a teeny baby neice or daughter, I would most certainly outfit her in these for Christmas! So. Freaking. Cute.

Always On Time

So many important dates to add to my 2010 calendar... A friend's wedding in September, my big sister's due date in June, hubby's birthday in May. I better make sure to have a calendar I want to look at everyday. Somehow, I don't think that will be my problem this year...

Linda & Harriet, $30

Supermarket HQ, $20

SuzyJack, $18.50

On My Wish List...

Vine-Ripened Earrings in Purple, $32

I was browsing through Anthropologie's collection of earrings the other day in search of a pair to give, but instead, I found a lot that I wanted to get! And the best thing about them? The prices are not too shabby.

Thank You For Being A Friend

Due to my ever expanding family, and my pathologic need to buy them gifts, I've had to cut back on my spending in the friend category, but I still like to create a little something to let them know I care. Maybe this would fit the bill?

I found it over at Twig & Thistle. Everybody likes a little something sweet and who doesn't have fond memories of roasting marshmallows for S'mores? I love an easy, creative idea.

One for the Kiddos

I always have kind of a hard time figuring out what to get for my neices and nephews. I hate to get them some toy that will fall apart in a week. Even worse if they lose interest in it before it fall apart. I guess I just have to take a chance on some things.
That's why I like this DIY Monster Kit from The Future Perfect. Boys and girls alike can create their own little monster from the wool pieces.
Hey, it beats a Tickle Me Elmo (or whatever the kids are clamoring for these days).

All I Want For Christmas...

Give me books, books, and more books. If I had a drug of choice, it would be books. What a clean, legal addiction to have. Three are topping my list currently...

I've been into Tord Boontje's whimsical designs for a while. It would be nice to have all wrapped up neatly in a book where I could look at them any time I need inspiration. Tord Boontje by Martina Margetts, $47.25 @ Amazon.

Every since I read an interview with Carrie McCarthy on Coco + Kelley, I've been obsessed with getting my hands on her book! What is my style statement and how can I put it to work in my life? Style Statement: Live By Your Own Design by Carrie McCarthy & Danielle LaPorte, $7.80 @ Amazon.

Macarons are a rather recent obsession. I didn't taste one until this past summer. I can't believe what I was missing! They're delicious! I want to make a trip to Paris just to savor some, but until then, I can look at pictures of them and drool. I Love Macarons by Hisako Ogita, $10.17 @ Amazon.

Wake Up Call

I've been having a hard time waking up lately. Maybe it's because there's nothing interesting to look at the second my eyes open. On my nightstand: two pairs of eyeglasses (for before-bed TV watching by my husband and I), a midcentury-modern white lamp, remote control, and a snoozefest of an alarm clock I've had since college. Time for an upgrade? Yes, please.

I've been eyeing this Wood LED Clock since it came into our store. The time shines through a super-thin veneer of wood. Maybe it's time I made it mine?

The simplicity of the Aura Clock appeals to my need to keep things looking clean (I try, at least), but the pop of orange on the inside of the rim appeals to my desire for something interesting.

Daily Candy recently mentioned this Emily Clock. I like the practicality of it. I mean, who enjoys craning their neck to see the time in the middle of the night? Luckily, it's stylish as well. Because a practical clock means nothing to me if it's ugly.

Of all of the clocks, the Clocky is probably the one I need the most. The only caveat: my dog might attack it the second it rolls on the floor. She goes nuts for noisy things!

Christmas is right around the corner! It's that time of year where our customers go crazy for some of our fun gifts. We just uploaded a lot of new products just in time for the holiday season. Check out some of our favorites:

Drink your triple grande, non-fat latte with a shot of espresso in eco-friendly style. It's cheaper at High Fashion Home than here.

We all wish we could be a little bit taller. Well, here is an extra 9 inches in a portable, easy to carry form. Easy Fold Step Stool - $14

Here is a modern day Christmas tree where you can share memories of all your loved ones.
Fotofalls Floor Standing - $69

Everyone loves baking during the holidays. Who is a better assistant than everyone's favorite 80's arcade game?
Hot Heads Pac-Man - $14.95

I can only solve half of the problems. But it's nice to look smart when you bring over guests.
Pop Quiz Clock - $32

Face your fears with the shower curtain that screams, "I love you."

These Boots Were Made For Walkin'

I've been on the search for a tall flat boot practically since I came to be. The day after I started walking was when I started looking for that boot. Needless to say, it's been a long, tough road. This year, I am determined to find that perfect pair.
I like the distressing on these Vintage Tall Roadster Boots from J. Crew, but I wish it had a couple more buckles to make things interesting.
The Thebna Boot from Nine West has the details I desire, but I'm not sure I'm sold on the color.

I absolutely LOVE this boot from Chloe. Refined gold buckle, great leather, cool heel, but $1,100?! I'd prefer to stay married, thankyouverymuch.

Another classic boot, this time the Isabelline Riding Boot by Ralph Lauren, but it's a bit too classic for my taste. Oh, and it's close to $1000, too. Let's see... Boots or food for two months?

These Jenny Boots from Piperlime are a close competitor. I like the style and the buckles and the color, but I wish they were more distressed.

I think I found a winner! They Cranberry Bog Boots from Anthropologie are nicely worn in (but not worn out). The color is nice and neutral but interesting. The toggle makes for a cool detail. They'd look fantastic with jeans. And the price? I won't be buying them for myself, but maybe I'll put them on my Christmas list. And if I don't get them, I know what I'll be writing about next year!

Saved by the Bell

Why should the kiddos be the only ones with fun desk supplies? Personally, I love a cheeky pencil holder. I love for my desk to have more than the basic black tape dispenser and stapler. I spend a lot of time there, so I want it to be inviting.

These are the equivelant of desktop bling. They create rainbows when spun. That's one way to procrastinate, I suppose. Vasa Cubes, $350 for 6 @ MoMA.

Nothing like bright red Fu Dogs to guard your books. I have plenty of books that need to be wrangled! Fu Dog Bookends, $49.95 @ CB2.

Paperwork is a whole lot more fun when you have something pretty to look at! Synchronicity File Folders, $5.99 @ Container Store.

Feeling stabby? Get Dead Fred. You can stab him over and over again without dealing with lawyers and jail and juries. Dead Fred Pen Holder, $9.95 @ High Fashion Home.
Writing notes would be so much more pleasureable if I was writing with something beautiful. I absolutely love this pencil. Flowering Twig, $5 @ Anthropologie.

Hey Mama

It took me too long to realize just how cool my mom is. Sorry, Mom! I knew for sure she was cool the other day when I was checking out the pillows on Jonathan Adler's website and some of the patterns looked strangely familiar...

My mom made these pillows and the bench cushion when she and my dad lived on the East Coast for the Navy in the late 60's/early 70's.

The pillows and bench are needlepointed in a Bargello style motif. What was very cool back then is cool once again.

Look familiar? The bottom right pillow in the Chevron pattern is the same one my mom used to cover her bench (except for the colors, of course!). Oh, Mom... You're so cool.

Jonathan Adler pillows, clockwise from top left: Bargello Waves Pillow in Multi, 16x16, $125; Bargello Puzzle Pillow, 22x22, $175; Bargello Chevron Pillow, 22x22, $175; Bargello Kaleidoscope Pillow, 12x12, $95.

Cleanup on Aisle Five!

Accessories are my favorite, no matter what kind. You can have fun with accessories- go bright, go funky, go with an insanely dizzying pattern, it's all good!

Keeping the above proclamation in mind, I love collecting dishtowels. As soon as I got my own place, I began snatching them up. Striped ones, holiday ones, vintage-inspired ones... The list goes on. They add a much needed dose of color to an otherwise generic and bland apartment kitchen. Here are some of the ones that have caught my eye lately...

I love the depth of the plum color and I'm always a sucker for batik! Bubble chain linen tea towels from 5 o'clock Crows via Etsy, $26 (P.S. There are more colors available!)

Nothing says whimsy like a Marimekko print! Kippis Tea Towels (set of two), $22.50 via Finn Style.

I always pick up two or three towels when I go to Crate & Barrel. At 4 bucks a pop, why not? Salsa Stripe Dishtowels, $3.95 each.

This reminds me of the trip my hubby and I took to Acapulco. Growth Spurt Dishtowel, $16 at Anthropologie.

These are classic kitchen decor. May vintage labels never go out of style! Italian Kitchen Towels, $5.95 each at Sur La Table.

Care for a Spot of Tea?

Hearing the words "Tea Party" brings three things to mind: The city of Boston, Alice in Wonderland, and beautiful china teacups. Teacups are the one thing I display all the time whether they are being used for tea or not. They hold my jewelry, I toss those extra buttons that come with clothes into them, and they serve as candy bowls when guests come over. They're not so much about function for me, and a piece of table art. Keeping that in mind, here are some gorgeous teacups (and pots!) I've found lately...
Royal Copenhagen really does make tabletop art. These are exquisite.
I'm so glad Missoni moved their iconic prints to china. What a perfect centerpiece this teapot would make!

The ombre saucer looks fantastic with the bright floral cup. I think I have a place for you right on my coffee table... Margherita by Missoni.

My friend and coworker, Jennifer, got some of the Lenox "Chirp" pattern for her wedding. Isn't it cute and Springy?

Kate Spade can do no wrong. This is heavenly!

I would fill this Vera Wang teapot with a tight bunch of peonies and set it on my dining table. Tres romantique!

I can always count on Anthropologie for cute, inexpensive teacups. A pop of color with gold accents is just what I need/want.
